This reboot brought in a more realistic take on Lara Croft’s adventures. The visuals, puzzles and story are all about the next generation and you do have a new combat system, skill system and a powerful gameplay mechanic.
Tomb Raider II built upon its predecessor and it brought in more puzzles and action. The ability to train inside the mansion and being able to explore the game world as you see fit really brought in intense gameplay mechanics.
Tomb Raider is the game that started it all. It was a groundbreaking experience starting with great puzzles, amazing locations and they brought in an extraordinary story with a very good villain as well.
Rise of the Tomb Raider might be one of the newest games, but it does include a beautiful game world, tomb raiding and puzzles, a variety of enemies as well as scripted action scenes. The game is downright spectacular for what it is, and you should totally check it out!
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the latest iteration and it brings in on Lara’s story and legacy. There are major tombs, QTE sequences as well as creative puzzles all around. This brings in a satisfying ending to the story.
Tomb Raider: Legend brings in a unique balance of puzzles and action. This is the first game in the series that put a huge emphasis on realistic mechanics and physics. That alone made it a lot more intuitive and exciting when compared to some of the other entries. It’s certainly a unique game to say the least, and the mechanics they added in here really push the boundaries and stand out in ways you would not imagine.
Having a Lara Croft game with cooperative gameplay really shines. This game had an isometric camera angle and arcade gameplay. The game world is immersive, full of cool stuff and you will have lots of amazing locations to explore.
Tomb Raider: Underworld is the response that Crystal Dynamics had to Uncharted. They wanted to bring in dual targeting, a new inventory system as well as the use of a grappling hook. Granted, this game is not as good as the first Uncharted, but it certainly tries something different and you do have some memorable boss battles. Whether it’s as good as the first ones or not, that’s really hard to say. But it’s still a fan favorite just because it has some very impressive mechanics and fun moments for you to check out and explore.
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris brings in the Guardian of Light gameplay but it adds 4 people in total. The game is very focused on creativity, shooting lots of enemies and exploring the isometric world the way you want to. It’s a very interesting experience just because you can shoot lots of enemies with friends and just have fun the way you want. That alone, combined with a pretty high number of missions makes this game a nice addition to the series.
Tomb Raider III had maybe the best level design in the entire series. It also had underwater levels, which had some challenging controls. But despite that it focused a lot more on puzzles, something that a lot of people wanted for sure.
The fourth game in the series is known for the fact that they brought in a better model for Lara Croft. They also had the idea of having multiple routes in the game as you try to reach a particular location. You could also shimmy around the corners, something that was really important as you tried to harness everything and make things better than ever before.
Lara Croft GO was inspired by Hitman Go and it’s basically a turn based puzzle gameplay that really fits the Tomb Raider universe. You have some pretty cool puzzles, there are collectibles found in the game world and you can also unlock new outfits for Lara. Granted, this is a mobile game so it’s really short, but then again it’s a blast to play if you enjoy Lara Croft and her adventures.
Tomb Raider: Chronicles has the same old engine and it does recycle some of the puzzles, environments and gameplay. Despite that, being able to play even more Lara Croft adventures is a delight and you do get a pretty exciting game experience as you try to enjoy the cool new locations and fun moments.
This is not the first game but it is the first iteration of Tomb Raider on the Game Boy Color. It was a separate adventure mainly because it was a 2D game, so they had to shift things a bit. The game world scrolled and that brought in some cool puzzles and ideas. Sure, it’s nothing very impressive based on our standards, yet it still impressed a lot of people at that time.
Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword is another GBC game. This one is a pretty impressive title because it has a new story and locations as well as slightly better graphics. If you want to play Tomb Raider on the go, this is certainly one of the best experiences to find out there.
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness might not have the most interesting gameplay, but it does come with a vibrant story and a few cool moments in between that really push the experience to new heights.
Tomb Raider: The Prophecy appeared on the GBA and it wanted to blend 3D and 2D gameplay into a single game. The puzzle parts were simple, but there were action sequences and those really shined for a lot of people. It’s still a portable Tomb Raider game, so having adventure in your pocket is always a nice thing.
