Sridevi Kapoor (born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan; 13 August 1963 – 24 February 2018) was an Indian film actress and producer who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Regarded as Bollywood's first female "superstar", she is the recipient of six Filmfare Awards. Sridevi ranked amongst the highest paid actors in the 1990s and is considered to be the most popular actress of the era. Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan was born in Sivakasi, Madras state, India on 13 August 1963 to Tamil father Ayyapan and Telugu mother Rajeswari. Her father was a lawyer. She has a sister and two stepbrothers.In 1996, Sridevi married Boney Kapoor, a film producer who is also the elder brother of actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. They have two daughters, Jahnvi and Khushi. Sridevi Kapoor was an Indian film actress and producer who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Regarded as Bollywood's first female "superstar", she is the recipient of six Filmfare Awards. Sridevi died on 24 February 2018 in Dubai after suffering a massive cardiac arrest.

Mr. India is a 1987 Indian Bollywood science fiction superhero film, directed by Shekhar Kapur and written by Salim-Javed. It stars Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri in the lead roles. The film was the highest-grossing Indian film of 1987, and remains a cult classic in India. The film was known for several of its lines and songs, including Sridevi's Miss Hawa Hawaii performance, and Amrish Puri's quote "Mogambo khush hua" (Mogambo is pleased), which is one of the most famous quotes of Bollywood and became synonymous with Puri. The Mogambo character is also considered to be one of the best villains in Bollywood history. Laxmikant-Pyarelal's music performed well too, especially the song Hawa Hawaii which is very popular till today. The film has often been featured in different lists of top Bollywood films. Indiatimes Movies ranks the movie amongst the Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films.This was the last film that the writing duo Salim-Javed wrote together. They had split up earlier in 1982, but came back for one last film.
Sadma (Hindi: सद्मा; English: Trauma) is a 1983 Indian drama movie directed by Balu Mahendra which stars Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in the lead with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film tells the story of Nehalata (Sridevi), a young girl who regresses to childhood after suffering a head injury in a car crash. Lost, she ends up trapped in a brothel before being rescued by Somu (Kamal Haasan), a lonely school teacher who falls in love with her. The film is a remake of the 1982 of Balu Mahendra's own Tamil Film Moondram Pirai, starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. Sridevi's autistic child-woman performance was widely praised and is considered one of the finest performances and also brought her nominations in the Filmfare Best actress award category as well as State awards and National Awards. Kamal's performance in the film's climax won him the National Award in the Tamil original. The film flopped at the box-office, but achieved cult status and is regarded as an all time classic featuring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi's best performances. Sridevi's role was initially offered to Dimple Kapadia, but she could not accept the role due to other commitments.
Chandni (Translation: Moonlight) is a 1989 Indian Hindi romantic drama film, starring Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna and Waheeda Rehman. It was directed by Yash Chopra and the screenplay was written by Kamna Chandra, Arun Kaul, Sagar Sarhadi and Umesh Kalbagh. Chandni was one of the biggest box office hits of 1989. It won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film of 1989 and is regarded as one of the Yash Chopra's best films.
English Vinglish is a 2012 Indian comedy-drama film, written and directed by Gauri Shinde. The narrative revolves around a homemaker who enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process. The protagonist, played by Sridevi, was inspired by Shinde's mother. English Vinglish was originally made in Hindi; later it was re-shot in Tamil and released along with a Telugu dubbed version on 5 October 2012. The film marked Sridevi's return to filmmaking after a 15-year hiatus; it features French actor Mehdi Nebbou, Adil Hussain, and Priya Anand. Amitabh Bachchan and Ajith Kumar had cameo appearances in the Hindi and Tamil versions respectively. Before its theatrical release, English Vinglish was premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, where both it and Sridevi's performance received positive response. Before its release, the film was screened for the Indian press and critics. It received critical acclaim and several critics hailed it as a "must watch film". Soon after its release, English Vinglish was declared a hit in India and overseas.
ChaalBaaz (English: Trickster) is a 1989 Indian Hindi Language comedy film directed by Pankaj Parashar. The film is the remake of 1973 Indian movie Seeta Aur Geeta. Starring Sridevi in a double role, the film tells the story of two separated twin sisters Anju who is badly treated and abused by her uncle while Manju a street smart girl. The movie is regarded as an all-time classic comedy film of Hindi Cinema and is also regarded as one of Sridevi's finest performances till date. The film also starred Rajinikanth, Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher, Shakti Kapoor, Rohini Hattangadi, Anu Kapoor. The film was one of the biggest commercial and critical success of the year and also the film's music became a big hit especially 'Naa Jaane Kaha Se Aye Hain'.
Lamhe (English: "Moments") is a 1991 Indian romantic drama film, directed by Yash Chopra, and starring Sridevi and Anil Kapoor. The story was written by Honey Irani and Rahi Masoom Raza. It was inspired by the 1986 film Anokha Rishta, which was also written by Rahi Masoom Raza. Lamhe was shot in two schedules in Rajasthan and London. Over the years, it has been hailed as a classic and possibly Yash Chopra's finest film. Sridevi received widespread acclaim for her performance in the film and won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Although a commercial failure in India, it became a success in the UK. Lamhe went on to win several awards and features in Outlook magazine's list of Bollywood's Best Films. It has been cited as Yash Chopra's personal favourite of the movies he has done. This was one of the last films that Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza scripted. He died a couple of months after its release.
Mom is a 2017 Indian thriller film directed by Ravi Udyawar. Produced by Boney Kapoor, Sunil Manchanda, Mukesh Talreja, Naresh Agarwal and Gautam Jain, the film stars Sridevi, as a vigilante, who sets out to avenge her daughter, played by Sajal Ali. Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui play supporting roles in the film. Music for the film has been composed and produced by A. R. Rahman. Mom marked Sridevi's 300th, and final film appearance before her death on 24 February 2018. The film was released on 7 July 2017, in four languages, and received positive reviews from film critics. It was successful commercially as well grossing 60 crores worldwide. Sridevi was highly lauded for her performance in the film with Times of India saying that the actress "demonstrates why she is the high-priestess of Indian cinema." The film got 6 nominations at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, including Best Actress and Best Actress (Critics) for sridevi and Best Supporting Actor for siddiqui.
Nagina (Female snake) is 1986 Indian fantasy film, produced and directed by Harmesh Malhotra in a screenplay written by Ravi Kapoor and story by Jagmohan Kapoor. Starring Sridevi in the lead role, the film revolves around Rajni, a Nāginī who marries a civilian to avenge the death of her spouse at the hands of an evil saint. The film also stars Rishi Kapoor , Amrish Puri , Sushma Seth and Prem Chopra in supporting roles. The film on its release was a widespread success becoming the 2nd Highest-grossing movie of the year. The film was also a major watershed moment in Indian Cinema as the film despite being a women centric movie became a massive commercial success. A sequel to the film was released Nigahen: Nagina Part II (1989) which made the former the first Indian movie ever to have a sequel, although the sequel failed commercially. Today, Nagina is considered a cult classic and one of Sridevi's career's finest performances.

Poornachandra Rao both under banner Lakshmi Productions (Madras) (P).LTD. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role, Jayaprada, Sridevi and Anupam Kher . It was directed by the Tamil actor and director Bhagyaraj.
Karma (Hindi:कर्मा) is a 1986 Indian action film directed by Subhash Ghai and featuring an ensemble cast including Dilip Kumar, Nutan, Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Sridevi and Anupam Kher. The film reunites Subhash Ghai and Dilip Kumar after the success of their last film together Vidhaata (1982). The film also marked the first time Dilip Kumar was paired with veteran actress Nutan. The film was a huge success at box office.
Gumrah (Astray) is a 1993 Indian Hindi action drama and crime thriller feature film written by Sujit Sen and Robin Bhatt, and directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the film was the seventh highest grossing hindi film at the box office that year.
Judaai (English: Separation) is a 1997 Bollywood drama film, produced by Surinder Kapoor and directed by Raj Kanwar. It features Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Urmila Matondkar in leading roles; and Kader Khan, Farida Jalal, Johnny Lever, Paresh Rawal, Upasana Singh and Saeed Jaffrey in supporting roles; while Poonam Dhillon makes a special appearance. The film was a remake of 1994 Telugu film Shubhalagnam. The film itself was remade into a television series, Main Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki. It has been declared a super hit film by box-office in 1997.
Janbaaz (Daredevil) is a 1986 Indian film, produced and directed by Feroz Khan, which became popular for its portrayal of drug addiction and Anil Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia's steamy sex scene. Sridevi featured in the song "Har kisiko" which became an instant chart-topping hit. The movie is greatly inspired by the Gregory Peck and Joseph Cotten starrer Hollywood movie Duel in the Sun (1946).

Starring Jeetendra, Sridevi, Padmini Kolhapure in the lead roles and music composed by Bappi Lahari. The film is remake of Tamil Movie Enkeyo Ketta Kural (1982) with Rajnikanth, Ambika, Radha which was first remade as Telugu Movie Bava Maradallu (1984), starring Sobhan Babu, Raadhika, Suhasini in pivotal roles.
Khuda Gawah (English: God is the witness) is a 1992 Indian Hindi epic action romance film, produced by Nazir Ahmed & Manoj Desai on Glamour Films banner, directed by Mukul S. Anand, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, Nagarjuna, Shilpa Shirodkar in lead roles and music composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The film recorded as Super Hit at the box office. Khuda Gawah had lavish production values and was extensively shot in India, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan. The film won much acclaim for all its actors and especially the lead pair Sridevi and Amitabh Bachchan. Both stars won Filmfare nominations for their work. The film won three Filmfare awards, including Best Director, and went on to become the second-highest-grossing film of 1992. It entered India's Limca Book of Records as the first Bollywood film to use surround sound technique. A sequel to the movie is being planned by producer Manoj Desai. The film was dubbed in Telugu with Amitabh Bachchan's voice dubbed by Saikumar. Khuda Gawah was later adapted into a Pakistani television series by the same name Khuda Gawah its starring include Arbaz Khan and Saba Qamar.
Laadla (translation: The Beloved Son) is an Indian Hindi film released on 17 April 1994, starring Sridevi, Anil Kapoor and Raveena Tandon. The film was notable because Divya Bharti was originally cast as the female lead and had shot most of the film. However, due to her untimely death in 1993, the film was reshot with Sridevi replacing her. Footage of Divya Bharti's performance as Sheetal is available on the internet.[2] Laadla is the remake of Rajkumar's blockbuster Kannada movie called Anuraga Aralithu (1986). Laadla was a box Office hit dominated by Sridevi's presence who was quite a big star at that time.
Himmatwala (English: Brave Man) is a 1983 Bollywood comedy drama film, produced by G. Hanumantha Rao by Padmalaya Studios banner, presented by Krishna and directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. Starring Jeetendra, Sridevi in the lead roles and music composed by Bappi Lahri. The film is a remake of Telugu movie Ooruki Monagadu (1981), starring Krishna, Jaya Prada in lead roles.[2] The film recorded as Industry Hit at box office, grossing 12,00,00,000.[3] Himmatwala is one of the biggest blockbusters of the 1980s.
Tohfa (English: Gift; Hindi: तोहफा) is a 1984 Bollywood drama film, produced by D. Ramanaidu on Suresh Productions banner and directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. Starring Jeetendra, Jaya Prada, Sridevi in the lead roles and music composed by Bappi Lahari The film is a remake of Telugu movie Devata (1982). The film recorded Blockbuster at the box office and took the top spot at the box office in 1984. Tohfa, a heroine-centered story about two sisters and their love triangle with the hero, was a direct remake of K. Raghavendra Rao's earlier hit Telugu film Devata (1982), with Jayaprada and Sridevi playing the same roles and as Tamil movie Deiva Piraivi was made with Mohan, Radhika, Oorvasi in pivotal roles. The story was similar to earlier films: 1959 Tamil film Kalyana Parisu directed by C. V. Sridhar, who also directed its Hindi remake, Nazrana (1961) starring Raj Kapoor and Vyjayanthimala and the 1960 Telugu version Pelli Kanuka. At the 32nd Filmfare Awards, Tohfa received three nominations: Shakti Kapoor for Best Comic Actor, Bappi Lahiri for Best Music and Indeevar received Best Lyrics nomination for "Tohfa Tere Pyaar Ka."
