Sridevi Kapoor (born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan; 13 August 1963 – 24 February 2018) was an Indian film actress and producer who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Regarded as Bollywood's first female "superstar", she is the recipient of six Filmfare Awards. Sridevi ranked amongst the highest paid actors in the 1990s and is considered to be the most popular actress of the era. Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan was born in Sivakasi, Madras state, India on 13 August 1963 to Tamil father Ayyapan and Telugu mother Rajeswari. Her father was a lawyer. She has a sister and two stepbrothers.In 1996, Sridevi married Boney Kapoor, a film producer who is also the elder brother of actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. They have two daughters, Jahnvi and Khushi. Sridevi Kapoor was an Indian film actress and producer who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Regarded as Bollywood's first female "superstar", she is the recipient of six Filmfare Awards. Sridevi died on 24 February 2018 in Dubai after suffering a massive cardiac arrest.

Nagina (Female snake) is 1986 Indian fantasy film, produced and directed by Harmesh Malhotra in a screenplay written by Ravi Kapoor and story by Jagmohan Kapoor. Starring Sridevi in the lead role, the film revolves around Rajni, a Nāginī who marries a civilian to avenge the death of her spouse at the hands of an evil saint. The film also stars Rishi Kapoor , Amrish Puri , Sushma Seth and Prem Chopra in supporting roles. The film on its release was a widespread success becoming the 2nd Highest-grossing movie of the year. The film was also a major watershed moment in Indian Cinema as the film despite being a women centric movie became a massive commercial success. A sequel to the film was released Nigahen: Nagina Part II (1989) which made the former the first Indian movie ever to have a sequel, although the sequel failed commercially. Today, Nagina is considered a cult classic and one of Sridevi's career's finest performances.

Mr. India
#12.1Mr. India is a 1987 Indian Bollywood science fiction superhero film, directed by Shekhar Kapur and written by Salim-Javed. It stars Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri in the lead roles. The film was the highest-grossing Indian film of 1987, and remains a cult classic in India. The film was known for several of its lines and songs, including Sridevi's Miss Hawa Hawaii performance, and Amrish Puri's quote "Mogambo khush hua" (Mogambo is pleased), which is one of the most famous quotes of Bollywood and became synonymous with Puri. The Mogambo character is also considered to be one of the best villains in Bollywood history. Laxmikant-Pyarelal's music performed well too, especially the song Hawa Hawaii which is very popular till today. The film has often been featured in different lists of top Bollywood films. Indiatimes Movies ranks the movie amongst the Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films.This was the last film that the writing duo Salim-Javed wrote together. They had split up earlier in 1982, but came back for one last film.

The film tells the story of Nehalata (Sridevi), a young girl who regresses to childhood after suffering a head injury in a car crash. Lost, she ends up trapped in a brothel before being rescued by Somu (Kamal Haasan), a lonely school teacher who falls in love with her. The film is a remake of the 1982 of Balu Mahendra's own Tamil Film Moondram Pirai, starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. Sridevi's autistic child-woman performance was widely praised and is considered one of the finest performances and also brought her nominations in the Filmfare Best actress award category as well as State awards and National Awards. Kamal's performance in the film's climax won him the National Award in the Tamil original. The film flopped at the box-office, but achieved cult status and is regarded as an all time classic featuring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi's best performances. Sridevi's role was initially offered to Dimple Kapadia, but she could not accept the role due to other commitments.

English Vinglish

The narrative revolves around a homemaker who enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process. The protagonist, played by Sridevi, was inspired by Shinde's mother. English Vinglish was originally made in Hindi; later it was re-shot in Tamil and released along with a Telugu dubbed version on 5 October 2012. The film marked Sridevi's return to filmmaking after a 15-year hiatus; it features French actor Mehdi Nebbou, Adil Hussain, and Priya Anand. Amitabh Bachchan and Ajith Kumar had cameo appearances in the Hindi and Tamil versions respectively. Before its theatrical release, English Vinglish was premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, where both it and Sridevi's performance received positive response. Before its release, the film was screened for the Indian press and critics. It received critical acclaim and several critics hailed it as a "must watch film". Soon after its release, English Vinglish was declared a hit in India and overseas.

Over the years, it has been hailed as a classic and possibly Yash Chopra's finest film. Sridevi received widespread acclaim for her performance in the film and won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Although a commercial failure in India, it became a success in the UK. Lamhe went on to win several awards and features in Outlook magazine's list of Bollywood's Best Films. It has been cited as Yash Chopra's personal favourite of the movies he has done. This was one of the last films that Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza scripted. He died a couple of months after its release.

Sridevi was highly lauded for her performance in the film with Times of India saying that the actress "demonstrates why she is the high-priestess of Indian cinema." The film got 6 nominations at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, including Best Actress and Best Actress (Critics) for sridevi and Best Supporting Actor for siddiqui.

It entered India's Limca Book of Records as the first Bollywood film to use surround sound technique. A sequel to the movie is being planned by producer Manoj Desai. The film was dubbed in Telugu with Amitabh Bachchan's voice dubbed by Saikumar. Raghavendra Rao's earlier hit Telugu film Devata (1982), with Jayaprada and Sridevi playing the same roles and as Tamil movie Deiva Piraivi was made with Mohan, Radhika, Oorvasi in pivotal roles. The story was similar to earlier films: 1959 Tamil film Kalyana Parisu directed by C. V. Sridhar, who also directed its Hindi remake, Nazrana (1961) starring Raj Kapoor and Vyjayanthimala and the 1960 Telugu version Pelli Kanuka. At the 32nd Filmfare Awards, Tohfa received three nominations: Shakti Kapoor for Best Comic Actor, Bappi Lahiri for Best Music and Indeevar received Best Lyrics nomination for "Tohfa Tere Pyaar Ka."
