A team from the intergalactic fast food chain Crumb's Crunchy Delights descends on Earth, planning to make human flesh the newest taste sensation. After they wipe out the New Zealand town of Kaihoro, the country's Astro-Investigation and Defense Service (AIaDS) is called in to deal with the problem. Things are complicated due to Giles, a hapless aid worker who comes to Kaihoro the same day to collect change from the residents. When Giles is captured by the aliens, the AIaDS team stages a rescue mission that quickly becomes an all-out, gore-soaked assault on the aliens' headquarters. While it lacks the polish of his later epics, *Bad Taste* is essential to any list of Peter Jackson's best films because it's the brilliant, unfiltered genesis of his entire career. Famously filmed on weekends over four years with a group of friends, this debut feature is a masterclass in DIY filmmaking and boundless passion. It establishes the signature "splatstick" style that would define his early work, blending grotesque, over-the-top gore with a wickedly dark and absurd sense of humor. From the handmade alien masks to Jackson himself playing two different characters, the film is a testament to the raw, kinetic creativity that would eventually conquer Hollywood, making it the hilarious, bloody, and foundational blueprint for everything that followed.
