Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul (1 January 1956 – 22 January 2019) was a Bangladeshi lyricist, composer and music director, active since the late 1970s. He was a freedom fighter who joined the Bangladesh Liberation War at the age of 15. He won a number of awards, including Ekushey Padak, National Film Awards and the President's Award. Bulbul joined the Bangladesh Liberation war in 1971 when he was 15 years old. He served in a Mukti Bahini base in Zinzira. His older brother, Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed Tutul, served in the Crack Platoon of the Mukti Bahini. He trained in India and fought in Lalbagh Thana and New Market Thana of Dhaka. In October, he was captured by Pakistan military and Razakars while returning to India for more training.He was transferred to a jail in Mymensigh were he was tortured and witnessed the mass execution of 39 Mukti Bahini prisoners by the Pakistan military. He transferred to the resident of Dana Miah which served as the local office of the East Pakistan Central Peace Committee. He was tortured there along with other members of the Mukti Bahini. He was able to escape from the camp. Awards: Ekushey Padak (2010) National Film Awards (2001, 2005) Bulbul was taken to Universal Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka around 6:15am, where the doctors, after necessary tests, declared him dead. He had suffered cardiac arrest.

Satellite TV Channel was introduced in Bangladesh in the 1990s. On 29 September 1992, the US television network CNN started relaying its transmission via satellite in Bangladesh for a few hours everyday using the BTV channel. The same year, BBC started the same under similar arrangements. Permission to use dish antennas for receiving satellite transmissions directly by general users opened up new opportunities for the Bangladeshi viewers to see programmes from the outside world. Between 1992-95, more than 10 foreign TV channels entered Bangladeshi homes. Today, this number stands at more than 100. The satellite television channels are now among the most popular means of entertainment for the people. New channels introduced in 1992 in Bangladesh in addition to CNN and BBC were basically those of the Star Television Network, Zee TV network, Indian TV and Pakistan TV. Some early starters bought dish antennas for very high prices and installed them on their roofs. Very soon, the innovative entrepreneurs, foreseeing a lucrative business, started operating private cable networks, which mushroomed throughout the country. The number of channels subscribed increased substantially in the major cities. Private satellite TV channel of Bangladesh origin channel-1, ATN Bangla also went into operation from the late nineties. NTV and Ekushay TV appeared with variety of news and programme later became popular satellite TV channels. According to a survey conducted in 1998 by a Dhaka daily, ATN, BBC, Channel-V, CNN, DD-7, DD-Metro, Discovery, ESPN, Prime Sports, Sony, Star TV Network (Star Movies, Star Plus, Star Sports), Zee TV and Zee Cinema were among the most watched and most popular channels. CNN, TNT, MTV and Cartoon Network were found to have a high viewing rate. Among the relatively new entrants, Ekushey Television, ATN Bangla, Channel I, Star World, National Geographic, HBO, AXN Action TV, and Alpha TV (now called Zee-Bangla) also made good impression among the Bangladeshi viewers. Ekushey Television was shut down during the rule of 4-Party alliance government (2001-2006). Some new local private satellite channels were given permission to launch their operations during this period. These included: RTV, Bangla Vision, Channel One, Boishakhi Television and Diganta Television. Ekushey Television resumed its operation in 2007 during the tenure of the caretaker government. The state-owned BTV also extended its transmission worldwide by launching a satellite channel called 'BTV World'. Three private channels channel One, Falgun Music and CSB news were shut down earlier. Desh TV, ATN News, Independent TV, Samoy Sangbad, GTV, Bijoy TV, Independent TV, Channel 71, My TV, Islamic TV, Machranga TV, Channel 24, Mohna TV, Channel 16 and Channel 9 are the latest notable entrant in the field. Some other new private satellite TV channels are expected to go on air very soon. According to a survey conducted in 2008, 68% Bangladeshi of over 15 years of age watch satellite TV channels at least once in a week. The number of TV audience has increased by 26% during the least ten years because of the massive expansion of local satellite TV transmissions as well as cable network. Only 8% households of Bangladesh had TV sets in 1995, the figure has raised to 41% now and 42% TV sets have satellite antennas or cabel connections. Earlier in 2006, the 'Cable TV Network Operation Act' was enacted to regulate the activities of cable TV operators in Bangladesh.

Artcell is a Bangladeshi progressive metal band formed in October 1999. Artcell is one of the leading bands of Bangladesh. The name "Artcell" was decided upon because it was softer sounding than a typical heavy metal name. In Cézanne and Shaju's words: -"Even though we were a heavy metal band when we started, we didn't want a heavy metal name. We wanted a softer or an artistic touch to the heavy metal side. 'Cells where art is produced' – that was pretty much the basic idea behind the name 'Artcell.' Ershad came up with it and we all opted for it." Artcell released its first studio album Onno Shomoy in 2002. It was both critically and commercially successful. After the success of Onno Shomoy, Artcell spent four years carrying out experiments with their music without releasing an album. They did, however, release singles scattered in various albums by other bands or compilation albums. Their second studio album Aniket Prantor was released in April 2006. The album was one of the top sellers of the year. In the 19 years since its inception, the band has released two albums. Their third album was scheduled to be released in December 2016 yet it is not published. In 1963, Zinga Goshty was the first[citation needed] orchestra band in Bangladesh, formed in Chittagong by a group of students from Chittagong College.[2] Pioneering groups during the late 1960s included Windy Side of Care (M. Fazle Rub, Alamgir, Rafique Mazhar Islam Saju, Rafi Omar, and Khwaja Shabbir Quader), the Lightnings (Neo Mendis,Noel Mendis) Rambling Stones (Zafar Iqbal and others), Ugly Phases, Time Ago Motion (Robin and others), Fire in Ice (Selim Alam, Reza Ahmed, Chhoton Islam and Habib Zafarullah Mithu) and Insex Dui (a band with American students studying at the American School in Dacca). They performed without expensive instruments or sound systems.[1] Azam Khan (Uchharon), a.k.a. the Legend, a.k.a. the Imaginative Composer, emerged during the 1970s. Happy Akhand's "Abar Alo Elo Je Shondha" was a popular song, and his premature death was a blow to the musicians he influenced. Faruq Mahfuz Anam (Bengali: ফারুক মাহফুজ আনাম), (known by his stage name James) is a Bangladeshi singer, guitarist, and composer. He is often referred to as "Guru". James is currently the lead guitarist and vocalist of the band Nagar Baul (the Urban Medincant). He has also played back in few songs in Bollywood movies. James rose to mainstream fame in the 1990s as the frontman of "Feelings" now renamed "Nagar Baul" which is one of the "Big Three of Rock", who were responsible for developing and popularising rock music in Bangladesh, the other two being LRB and Ark. James is considered to be the pioneer of psychedelic rock in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh national cricket team (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় ক্রিকেট দল), nicknamed The Tigers, represents Bangladesh in international cricket. It is administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Bangladesh is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test and One Day International (ODI) status. It played its first Test match in November 2000 against India in Dhaka, becoming the tenth Test-playing nation. Bangladesh's first official foray into international cricket came in the 1979 ICC Trophy in England. On 31 March 1986, Bangladesh played its first ODI match, against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. For a long time, football was the most popular sport in Bangladesh, but cricket gradually became very popular – particularly in urban areas – and by the late 1990s had surpassed football. Bangladesh made its full debut in international cricket in the 1986 Asia Cup. In 1997, Bangladesh won the ICC Trophy in Malaysia and thus qualified for its first Cricket World Cup to participate in England in 1999. There, it defeated Pakistan – causing much upset – and also Scotland. On 26 June 2000, Bangladesh was granted full ICC membership.
